At Argos Vision and Eye Care Center our Gaithersburg pediatric ophthalmologist carries a wide range of eyeglasses, frames and contact lenses for children and provides the best in pediatric eye care. Our selection is designed to fit our patient’s needs and all budgets. We also cater to children and their needs when it comes to vision, handling eye problems such as strabismus, nearsightedness, congenital cataracts and amblyopia.

Strabismus is the medical term for eyes that turn or are crossed. With strabismus, the eyes deviate when looking at objects. Amblyopia is a condition better known as lazy eye. Vision is not affected because of an eye disease with amblyopia but because of a problem in which the brain inhibits vision in one eye. Amblyopia is not correctable with glasses or contact lenses, and most usually only affects only one eye. Amblyopia causes reduced vision and can be caused by strabismus, or constant turning of the eye. Our Gaithersburg pediatric ophthalmologist treats amblyopia by using eyeglasses, eye drops, vision therapy or eye patches to help strengthen the weak eye. If the patient is older, vision therapy must be employed to help fix the condition, as it is best to correct this problem before age two for best results.

Our Gaithersburg pediatric ophthalmologist also treats children and adults for nearsightedness and farsightedness. These conditions are treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses, and for adults, LASIK surgery. LASIK is a type of surgery where the patient receives laser therapy that gives them the chance to have 20/20 vision once again, without the need for corrective lenses. LASIK can be done in 15 minutes, and patients have a short healing period. Vision is usually restored within 24 hours.
